Lakota
stories tell us our history and give us lessons on how we should live
our life.
STONE BOY GETS SURROUNDED
Tokahe
(the first man) is
watogla
(wild and free). He is born from a hole in
the earth and the center of the universe. From this hole he emerges from four
worlds. This is how a spirit joins the material world.
Tokahe
dreams of a Bow and Seven Sacred Arrows. This dream comes from
the
Pte Oyate
(Buffalo nation).
Tokahe
is given a name
Wahinkpe Hoksila
(Arrow Boy). This dream becomes the first
Wolakota
(Treaty of the Uni-
verse). The
Pte Oyate
sacrifice their lives so that the people who make and
live this covenant will have shelter, food and clothing. The humans of this
covenant will be called
Lakota
(Peace Makers). It also means that the
Lakota
will live according to Seven Laws:
-
Wayuonihan
(Respect)
-
Wocante Ognaka
(Generosity)
-
Woksape
(Wisdom)
-
Wacintanka
(Fortitude)
-
Woohitika
(Courage)
-
Wowahala
(Humbleness)
-
Waunsilayapi
(Kindness)
After an eon of time
Wahinkpe Oikpakinte
passes away. The
Lakota
wait for
another great leader to come to them.
Inyan Hoksila
(Stone Boy) is born to
them. Stone Boy brings the
Oipakinte Tipi
(Sweat Lodge) and gives instruc-
tion on how to use it to the
Lakota
. Stone Boy is a Savior and Prophet. The
Lakota
live an easy life with Stone Boy and soon become spoiled. They for-
get the Seven Laws and begin to abuse their powers.
