The drawing at the bottom of the page shows the blanket strip. The center
again represents the
Lakota
journey through the stars as spirits. Blue repre-
sents the night. Red represents the day.
The symbols in the blanket strip also show how the circle and numbers seven
and four were sacred to the
Lakota
people. This numerology is a system that
helps the tribe know the precise movement of the sun, moon, and stars.
The circles represent the spirit world
below the earth, the earth, the stars, and
the spirit world above the stars.
The symbols on each side of the circle represent the seven altars on the Seven
Sacred Mountains in the Black Hills.
The path between the circles represents the Milky Way or Spirit‘s journey.
